Frequently asked questions:

What is Teaching AI?

Teaching AI is an artificial intelligence (AI) powered lesson planning tool. It allows teachers to create any one of 30+ lesson resource types in under a minute.

Instead of creating a resource from scratch, users can specify what they need and then ask Teaching AIssistant to write a first draft for them.

How can AI help me with lesson planning?

Because Teaching AI provides a starting point for your lesson resource, all you need to do is check it over and make any tweaks or changes that are necessary to make sure it is perfect for your class and your course. We’ve even got a ‘Tweak Resource’ button, so that you can ask for further changes to the resource that Teaching AI has created for you without starting from scratch.

Our users report that using our AI lesson planning tool cuts the time for creating a lesson plan or resource by up to 80%.

What resource types can Teaching AI create?

Currently Teaching AI can create over 30 different types of lesson resources. These range from simple quizzes to full lesson plans - or even draft content for lesson slides. Many of our most-used lesson resource types are available in the free version of Teaching AI, while Supporters get access to the full catalogue of 30+ resource types.

Do I need to pay to use Teaching AI?

Our basic lesson resource generator is totally free for any teacher to use, and always will be. We’re firm believers that the potential of AI tools to transform education and save teachers time should not be locked away based on users’ ability to pay.

However, it costs money to keep the website live and run the servers that power Teaching AI. We also pay a small fee every time a user creates a resource. This means that in order to keep the site running, we need a source of regular income. That is why we have introduced the option for users to join as Supporters for just £5.99 per month. Supporters help to keep Teaching AI running and support our continuing development, and also receive a few benefits as a thank you for their support.

I’m outside the UK. Can I still use your lesson planner? Can I still become a Supporter?

Teaching AI is based in the UK, but everybody is welcome to use the lesson resource generator - and we have Supporters from several different countries. As we continue to develop Teaching AI, our ambition is to make sure that it is available and useful to every teacher and student… no matter where they are.

Does all this mean that AI is going to take my job, or that I don’t need to do any planning of my own?

Absolutely not! As teachers ourselves, the Teaching AI team are firm believers that teaching as a profession is far more about the qualities, skills, and professional judgement that an experienced teacher brings to the classroom than it is about creating lesson resources from scratch. Much of the magic of outstanding teaching comes from the human connection and understanding of each individual student that only a teacher can have. When we think back to the teachers that changed our own lives, we don’t remember the worksheets or quizzes they made: We we remember their vibrant personalities, their quirks, and how excited they made us feel about learning.

While Teaching AI is a fantastic tool, it is up to each individual user to ensure that they apply their professional judgement and their knowledge of their course and their class to ensure that the created resources are accurate and right for their lessons.

Is this the final version of Teaching AI?

No. We are working hard to continue improving the quality of lesson resources, add resource types and features, and improve the user interface. At the moment we are in Early Access, which means the lesson resource generator is available to use but that users may occasionally encounter strange behaviour. In most cases, any issues can be resolved by refreshing the page or by asking Teaching AI to create a resource again. (Any persistent errors or bugs can be reported to the team at brian@teachingaissistant.co.uk.)

I already have a resource that I have used in the past. Can Teaching AI use this as a starting point?

Absolutely! Users have the option of uploading existing files for Teaching AI to read and incorporate in its planning for your requested resource. Currently we support the upload of files in Powerpoint, Word, and PDF formats.

Why does it take so long for my resource to be created?

We don’t think it takes that long, actually! However, we understand that compared to most of the waiting times we usually see on the internet, the time to create a lesson resource (around 25 seconds on average) is longer than we are all accustomed to. As AI technology advances and our project develops, we expect that the time to create each resource will fall dramatically. We are targeting an eventual creation time of under 5 seconds per resource.
